How Three Men Affirmed Our Mission in One Week
A Faithful Path Makes an Overflowing Cup
Some moments come as gentle reminders. Others fill and overflow.
For Rita, co-founder of Bags of Grace, this past week offered both—clear affirmations that the work we are doing is not only needed, but divinely guided.
It began on a Wednesday at The Charlie Center, where a man—an older Black gentleman with no teeth, the kind of neighbor whose hardships are written in his posture and eyes—approached Rita with a message, and it was clear: he believed what we are doing was directed by God. And Rita shared that his presence, his words, even his approach did feel like confirmation that God is directing the steps of Bags of Grace.

Then came Sunday morning at Church Under the Bridge, a worship service where joy and struggle meet beneath the I-35 overpass. There, Rita was greeted by another man—tall, joyful, filled with the Holy Spirit. “He joyfully thanked us for what we’re doing,” Rita said. “He said it’s needed. My cup was running over, and I was drinking out of the saucer.”
But God didn’t stop there.
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
Recently, the Board of Directors Chair, Walt, ran into Charles who is neighbor we served regularly when he was experiencing homelessness. Today, he’s been living in Community First! Village for a year. Walt shared that the transformation—physical, emotional, and spiritual—was visible. Steady housing, consistent community, and grace have left their mark, as we have all hoped and prayed.
“For our Board and leadership, these moments are more than feel-good encounters,” Rita said. “They’re holy affirmations.”
God is still providing. Through every handshake, every bag of essentials, every familiar face restored—we are reminded: Jehovah Jireh, the Lord provides.
And He is.
