One Morning, Many Hands
A Shared Effort of Grace at Church Under the Bridge
How unexpected teamwork met a growing need with dignity and compassion.
This month at Church Under the Bridge, what began as a logistical hiccup became a beautiful reminder of how powerful community can be.
Someone—name unknown— coordinated with Panera to deliver a generous supply of baked goods. Those fresh pastries, destined for the trash, became a blessing for dozens of unhoused neighbors before the service even began.
At the same time, a Mission Possible team member unexpectedly needed medical care. The Mission Possible truck driver didn’t hesitate—instead of heading to Church Under the Bridge, the driver took the volunteer to the hospital. That act of compassion left a gap in the usual setup, but it opened the door for others to step in.
So my daughter and I said yes. We handed out the pastries, then brought out the Bags of Grace—our care packages filled with essentials and love. Within minutes, every single one was gone.
We always pack 100 bags for Church Under the Bridge, but because we passed out the Panera and started passing out the Bags early, it was clear the need is double what we are currently able to provide. At least 200 people could have used a Bag of Grace.
And yet, the morning flowed—not because of one person, but because so many worked together o do their part in God’s story—a stranger picked up the food. A driver chose compassion. We showed up with open hands. It wasn’t planned, but it was powerful.
That’s what Bags of Grace is all about. We bring what we have—be it Bags or hands—and God multiplies it.
Are you ready to lend a hand?
